A Year of
Grace and Hope:
Experience the Jubilee in Campli

The Jubilee in the Catholic Church

Since the first Jubilee, proclaimed by Pope Boniface VIII in 1300, which in its current form occurs every 25 years, the Holy Year of the Jubilee is a special time for believers. By undertaking a pilgrimage and participating in liturgical celebrations, the faithful can experience God’s holiness, turning their hearts from sin to grace. This is made possible through the Plenary Indulgence (remission of sins and spiritual debts).
A plenary indulgence is granted to all faithful who, with a repentant heart, visit the designated holy site and fulfil the following conditions: sacramental confession, participation in the Eucharistic celebration, receiving Holy Communion, praying for the intentions of the Holy Father, and, where possible, performing a work of mercy or charity.
Faithful may also obtain the Jubilee Indulgence according to the guidelines set forth by the Apostolic Penitentiary in the Norms for Granting Indulgences during the Ordinary Jubilee of 2025.
This year’s Jubilee is even more significant as it takes place in a world seeking hope, peace, and unity amidst the challenges of modern times.

The Ordinary Holy Year Jubilee 2025 in Campli

The opening of the Holy Year proclaimed by Pope Francis for 2025, themed “Pilgrims of Hope”, was celebrated on Christmas Eve in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and marked in Campli at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle on Thursday, January 2, at 9:00 AM. Celebrations for this special year will continue every Thursday throughout 2025.
In his proclamation Spes non confundit, the Holy Father emphasised the importance of promoting welcoming spaces at the local level as visible signs of hope, designating churches and sacred sites as suitable destinations for diocesan pilgrimages.
In response, Bishop Lorenzo Leuzzi of Teramo designated the Holy Staircase Sanctuary, along with eleven other churches in the diocese, as Jubilee Churches. In these Jubilee Churches, and throughout 2025, the Jubilee Indulgence is granted to the faithful who participate in pilgrimages, organised visits during the Jubilee, and particularly in Eucharistic Adoration. In these churches, the sacrament of reconciliation will also always be available.

Jubilee Thursdays in Campli

The Jubilee Year in Campli is marked by deeply felt religious celebrations, particularly during the Easter season, along with traditions tied to local culture and cuisine.
On all Thursdays of 2025, the Rector of the Holy Staircase Sanctuary, Father Jan Folkert, and the staff of the Tourist Office will welcome visitors and pilgrims. The Jubilee Day begins at 9:00 AM with Mass at the Church of St. Paul and continues with Eucharistic Adoration, concluding with another Mass at 5:30 PM.
Throughout the Adoration, priests will be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
On Jubilee Thursdays, the Tourist Office can organise free guided tours of the Holy Staircase Sanctuary, including a catechesis on the Jubilee and plenary and jubilee indulgences, by prior arrangement with the Rector at least a week in advance.
